German mail order braves the prevalent economical crisis with rising turnovers. According to a TNS-Infratest survey, these developments are for the most part owed to the growths in eCommerce. Mail order trade turnovers total to 28.6 billion Euros (increase of 3.7%) of which 13.4 billion Euros (increase of23%) are owed to internet turnovers and thus made the biggest contribution to the total rise.
According to Rolf Schäfer, president of the Federal Association of German mail order trade (bvh), mail order trading in 2008 will grow twice as strong as predicted for the total retail trade.
Mail order companies who offer products and /or services both in catalogues and on the internet currently gain the biggest sales volume within this industry, with a downwards trend, though; that means, a decrease of 4.6% to 16.6 billion Euros.
The pharmaceutical sector on the contrary noted the most crucial falling turnovers generated on the internet. Reasons for that, Schäfer states, are great uncertainties in connection with the ongoing discussion about the prohibition of mail ordering in this branch of business.
